H640

Batting H 640

Mediumweight, soft, fusible wadding made from synthetic fibres.

Price for H640
More volume. More quilting definition. Still soft.
What it does

H640 is a soft, medium-weight fusible batting that creates noticeably more volume than H630.

It produces a fuller, more cushioned surface and gives quilting, topstitching and dimensional work stronger visual definition.

Vlieseline describes H640 as its thickest iron-on batting. It adds plush body and softness — but it is not a rigid bag stabilizer.

Choose it when

You want the finished project to look and feel visibly padded, rounded and substantial while staying soft.

What the customer is asking for

I want a noticeably padded, plush finish, but I don't want a rigid stabilizer.

Use it for

For topstitching and quilting, for three-dimensional work such as voluminous bows or borders, and warm clothing such as jackets and coats. Suitable for light- to mediumweight fabrics.

Advantages
Thickest iron-on batting in the range
Easy to work with
No slippage during stitching

How to fuse it

Hand iron with damp cloth · 15 s · test a scrap first
1Lay the interlining with the coated side facing the reverse side of the fabric.
2Cover with a damp cloth and iron for around 15 seconds, working section by section and not pushing the iron.
3After fixing, lay the pieces down flat to cool for around 30 minutes to let the bond stabilise.

Best for

Quilted tote and handbag panels
Zipper pouches and soft-sided accessory bags
Quilted cushions and decorative panels
Softly padded cases and organizers
Jackets and coats needing a fuller padded layer
Three-dimensional bows, borders and braided details
Voluminous tiebacks and home-decor elements
Hat crowns and side sections where soft volume is wanted

Works best with

Quilting cotton
Poplin
Linen blends
Suitable fashion fabrics
Lightweight decor fabrics
Suitable synthetics that tolerate fusing

Best on light- to medium-weight fabrics. Always test the exact fabric before starting.

Choose something else if…

The bag or base must hold a crisp, firm shape — choose Decovil® I Light or Decovil® I
The project has narrow straps, tiny components or tight corners where bulk makes turning difficult
The garment needs a fine, fluid drape
The fabric must preserve significant stretch and recovery — choose H609
You want only subtle, low-profile cushioning — choose H630
You need a flame-resistant or high-heat protective batting
Maker tip

H640 and Decovil® I Light solve two different problems in one project. In Vlieseline's bucket-hat instructions, H640 gives the crown and side sections soft volume while Decovil® I Light gives the brim firmer shape.

In one sentence

Choose H640 when you want quilting and padded panels to look fuller, softer and more dimensional.

Pairs well with
Decovil I for the bag base — the loft above, a rigid panel below.
